1. Getting started
Open chatniai.com and choose to sign in. You can use a Google account, or type your email and we send you a six-digit code. There is no password to remember. The first time you sign in, your account is created and you can start checking straight away with 50 free checks a day.
2. Checking a claim
- Open Check a claim and paste the claim exactly as it reached you (a forwarded message, a headline, a quote).
- News Intelligence searches the open web, official sources, our archive and Nigeria's fact-checking record, then shows a verdict, the evidence and the sources. See How it works for what each verdict means.
- You can ask in English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo, and pick a tone and an answer style (short or detailed) in Personalisation.
- Your recent checks are listed on the left, on your own device.
Each claim you check counts as one check. See limits and credits.
3. The tool chips
Under the message box are chips. Each one changes what News Intelligence does with what you give it.
| Chip | What it does | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| Link | Paste a link and it checks whether the site is safe and genuine, then checks what the page or video says, claim by claim. | Everyone signed in |
| Find Doc&Stat | Finds reports, official documents and research, and pulls out the right statistics for your question. | Everyone signed in |
| Upload a PDF and check the claims inside it. | Everyone signed in | |
| Audio / Video desk | Upload audio or video, or paste a direct link, and get a transcript you can translate, analyse and download as a Word file. | Everyone signed in |
| Griot | Creative scripts for scriptwriters, broadcasters and radio presenters, written for your audience. | Everyone signed in |
| Thoth 🔒 | Investigative research. Name a public figure, organisation or topic and get a sourced background dossier: timeline, public statements, business and contracts, legal and official record. | Locked. Approved journalists only |
Most chips share your daily allowance. A heavy tool, such as a long video, may also have its own small limit; the chip tells you if you reach it.
4. Locked chips
Some tools can be misused if anyone can open them. Thoth builds profiles of real people, so it is kept for working journalists whose identity we have checked. If you press a locked chip, you will see how to apply.
Read the full steps in Journalist access, or go straight to the application form.
5. Free accounts, daily checks and subscriptions
News Intelligence works the same way on the website, the browser extension, the keyboards, the phone app and the WordPress plugin.
- Free account: 50 checks a day, shared by every tool. A normal check, link check, PDF, image or script costs 1. Heavy tools (Thoth, Soyombo, audio and video, and the AI-or-fake media check) cost 2.
- What a free account sees: the verdict, the reference and the opening lines of each answer. The full explanation and the source links are blurred until you subscribe. The count resets at midnight, Nigerian time.
- Subscribers, newsrooms and organisations: full answers on every product. A newsroom signs in with the email on its paid workspace to get this everywhere. Credits can also extend a free account; they do not expire on a timer.
- If you reach your limit, the chat tells you and links to Pricing.
Your live numbers (your plan, checks used today, credits) are on the Credits & billing page. Payment is not open yet; see Pricing.
6. Your data
We keep what we need to run your account and improve the service. Read the Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions. Journalist ID documents are used only to confirm identity and are visible only to PIJAlance staff reviewing applications.
7. Building something? Use the API
Newsrooms and developers can use the same engine through platform.chatniai.com, with its own documentation.
