We tested News Intelligence on 100 claims our editors had already ruled on.

How we ran the test

• The claims are real questions about Nigeria: politics, the economy, health, elections, security and sport. Most are checkable facts; some are opinions and predictions, to see whether the tool knows what it cannot check.
• Our editors ruled on each claim first. Their ruling is the answer key.
• News Intelligence then checked each claim on its own, finding and weighing its own sources. Nothing was changed after the run.
• Test run on . Results are what the tool produced, not edited afterwards.

Where it differed from our editors (0)

We publish these on purpose. Most of the differences are one step apart on the scale: our editors said Misleading where the tool said False. A reader who sees either will not trust the claim, but the difference matters to us, and we keep working on it.

What this does not prove

One hundred claims is a start, not a final score. The claims are mostly well-known Nigerian facts and common rumours, and the tool will do worse on fresh, local or fast-moving stories. Anything about a death, an assault or an election is held for a human editor before a final verdict is published. News Intelligence is still in testing: always read the sources.
